Why are my gums bleeding?

It’s nothing to panic about bleeding gums, but it’s more than necessary to visit your dentist to find out what’s causing it and treat it.

The most common reason for bleeding gums (gingivitis) is tartar, which irritates the gums, causing them to swell and bleed.

Cavities near the gum also act as a permanent irritant to the gum.

Fillings (fillings) that do not perfectly follow the contours of the tooth act as an irritating thorn for the gums, keeping them inflamed and bleeding.

Another cause of gum bleeding can be dental work that doesn’t fit the tooth perfectly.

Gum bleeding can also be caused by food injury, brushing teeth too hard, hormonal disturbances (e.g. puberty, pregnancy) or when talking about diseases such as hypovitaminosis c, diabetes mellitus, anemia, decreased immune system. Even some medicines can cause bleeding gums: contraceptives, anticoagulants, antidepressants and some antihypertensives.

To be sure of the cause and treatment, it is advisable to talk to your dentist and not to delay your visit too long.
