What it is, why it occurs and how it can affect you"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ve probably already heard of <em>antibiotic resistance<\/em>, especially if you&#8217;ve ever had a complicated <strong>tooth infection<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But do you know exactly what this phenomenon means and how it can affect us all, including when we&#8217;re dealing with a <strong>tooth infection<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this article, I explain to you what antibiotic resistance is, what causes it, how you can prevent it and <a href=\"https:\/\/inodental.ro\/en\/top-5-effective-antibiotics-for-dental-infections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>which antibiotic is good for tooth infection<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, I give you useful tips from my experience at <strong>INO Dental<\/strong>, where we frequently deal with patients who come in already treated \u201cby ear\u201d.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is antibiotic resistance?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Antibiotic resistance<\/strong> occurs when <strong>bacteria develop mechanisms by which they can survive antibiotic treatment<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basically, the medicine no longer works effectively and the infection persists or even gets worse.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Attention!<\/strong>  It&#8217;s not your body that becomes resistant, it&#8217;s the bacteria that live in it.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"996\" height=\"664\" src=\"https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Cel-mai-puternic-antibiotic.jpg\" alt=\"Antibiotic resistance: Why do treatments sometimes stop working?\" class=\"wp-image-8518\" style=\"width:696px;height:auto\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Cel-mai-puternic-antibiotic.jpg 996w, https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Cel-mai-puternic-antibiotic-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Cel-mai-puternic-antibiotic-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 996px) 100vw, 996px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Did you know that&#8230;?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over <strong>700,000 people die each year worldwide from infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria<\/strong>, according to the WHO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By <strong>2050<\/strong>, that number could reach <strong>10 million a year<\/strong> if we don&#8217;t act now.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Romania, the use of antibiotics is among the highest in the European Union &#8211; often <strong>without a prescription and without a doctor&#8217;s prescription<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do bacteria stop responding to infection treatments?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Resistance develops <strong>when antibiotics are used incorrectly or excessively<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some concrete examples:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We take <strong>over-the-counter<\/strong> antibiotics \u201cfor any pain\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stopping treatment too early<\/strong>, when \u201cwe feel better\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reusing antibiotics left over<\/strong> from a previous treatment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Using antibiotics prescribed for someone else<\/strong> because \u201cwe have the same symptoms\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How does drug resistance end up putting your health at risk?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Infections become harder to treat<\/strong> and may require hospitalization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can lead to <strong>severe complications<\/strong>, including death.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Treatment costs are rising<\/strong>, both for the patient and the healthcare system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There may be \u201ccommon\u201d infections that no longer respond to any existing antibiotics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"740\" height=\"743\" src=\"https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/ce-antibiotic-este-bun-pentru-infectie-la-masea.jpg\" alt=\"Antibiotic resistance made simple: causes, risks and solutions\" class=\"wp-image-8517\" style=\"width:632px;height:auto\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/ce-antibiotic-este-bun-pentru-infectie-la-masea.jpg 740w, https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/ce-antibiotic-este-bun-pentru-infectie-la-masea-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inodental.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/ce-antibiotic-este-bun-pentru-infectie-la-masea-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Most dangerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The WHO has identified a list of priority bacteria, including:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA<\/strong> ) &#8211; methicillin-resistant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/strong> &#8211; responsible for severe urinary tract and lung infections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enterobacteriaceae<\/strong> &#8211; The actual treatment should be carried out by your dentist, either by drainage, endodontic treatment or even extraction, depending on the case.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How long should I take the antibiotic?<\/strong><br\/>Usually between 5-7 days, depending on your doctor&#8217;s instructions. It&#8217;s essential to see the treatment through to the end, even if the symptoms disappear sooner. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Which antibiotic is good for a tooth infection?<\/strong><br\/>The right antibiotic depends on the type of infection and the patient&#8217;s condition.
